Prior to the Intensive:
Each participant is sent a packet of forms and self-inventories to complete and return prior to the intensive start date. They are used to create an Executive Analysis of your personality and leadership style. They include:
1. A "Client Information Form" that provides a fairly extensive medical and psychological history. It contains several self-inventories that allow you to assess your current level of physical/emotional well being.
2. An "Executive Coaching Client Contract" that:
- Asks you to set some initial goals for your work at the intensive
- Sets the terms of the time and cost of the intensive as well as the structure for follow-up sessions
- Affirms that the information shared in the executive coaching session is confidential and cannot be released unless your coach believes you are in clear and present danger of hurting yourself or others.
- Explains your right and procedures related to terminating the coaching contract
- Outlines what is expected of you during the coaching sessions.
3. A "Disclosure Statement" that:
- Ensures that you receive information on the coach's training and credentials
- Describes your rights as an executive coaching client
- Assures you of the confidentiality of the sessions, except in the special cases indicated in the "Coaching Contract."
4. The "SOC Inventory." This should be completed and sent to your coach prior to your visit.
5. Once the signed contract has been returned along with a 50% deposit, you will be mailed a complimentary autographed copy of Barry and Janae's book, Conflict Resolution: The Partnership Way. It is suggested that you read this book as preparation for your visit. You may be asked to complete some of the self-inventories in the book and send the results to your coach ahead of your visit.
Typical Executive Coaching Schedule For A Three-Day Intensive We keep the daily schedule flexible and tailored to meet your individual needs, particularly if you are switching time zones. Our training days are 6-8 hours long with a lunch break and morning and afternoon breaks. Wel use a variety of experiential and skill training techniques to help you accomplish your goals. There also may be homework assigned for the evenings to be completed before the next training day. Day One The first part of the first day we complete the Executive Analysis of your personality and leadership style. This begins with reviewing the information on the forms and self-inventories that you filled out prior to your visit. We review and modify the initial goals you set prior to your visit. Then we create a tentative plan for working on those goals during the intensive that may shift as your perceptions change. During the afternoon, we begin working towards your goals using a variety of tools. No matter what tools we use, you are always in charge of determining the pace of the training. We use the information you provided us to help you identify your personal style of conflict resolution and its limitations. From here we might continue with some of the following:- Role-playing techniques to help you practice negotiation skills or other relationship skills
- Identifying patterns of ineffective behavior that might be interfering with your effectiveness on and off the job
- Identifying the sources of your intractable conflicts
- Identifying symptoms of post-traumatic stress that are replaying in your life. At the end of the first day, we will review where we are in relation to your goals and then review our plans about where to begin the second day.
The Third Day
On this day, you and your coach(es) will complete anything remaining work from the second day and integrate the learnings from your first two days of work. The morning is usually devoted to summarizing and applying the insights from your intensive experience. The afternoon is devoted to creating a written follow-up action plan that you will take back home with you to implement. Included in your structured plan will be methods for balancing your personal/professional priorities. You will be asked to set new short and long-term goals related to implementing what you learned during the intensive part of your coaching and how you will continue the work that you began during the intensive. The Follow-up Telephone Sessions
This is often the most important part of the executive coaching experience. It is often challenging to implement your goals into your work and home environments. The daily pressures that you temporarily left behind during the intensive reappear as opportunities for change. The weekly telephone sessions provide you with important coaching support to help you overcome the obstacles that still remain in your work and home environments. Your coach(es) will continue to review your goals weekly with you and offer suggestions turning challenges into change opportunities as you implement your action plan. Your coach(es) are also available for phone or email consultation at times other than those that are scheduled, if you need it.Additional Coaching Sessions
The option of doing more face-to-face coaching is always available. You may wish to return for tune-ups from time to time if you uncover new challenges that require additional tools and support.Arranging Programs & Services
